Located midway between the bustling coastal resort communities of Camden and Bar Harbor, Searport Shores Camping Resort is a nice place to base yourself for a vacation. But don't be surprised if you find yourself reluctant to leave the campground or anxious to get back. First there's the location, a lovely forested parcel of land with 1,000 feet of ocean shoreline.

Naturally, the campground has activities that emphasize the coastal location, including regular lobster bakes. Want to get away for a bit? Rent a rent a canoe or kayak at the campground paddle on the calm Penobscot Bay.
Swimming is an option if you don't mind cold water. Beach combing or just walking are also popular activities here. At low tide you can walk to Moose Point State Park, a small day-use park.
Seals are not uncommon here, basking on rocks, or swimming curiously along the shore as one did the day we visited the park. Eagles, egrets, loons, ducks, and cormorants all frequent the area. Tidal pools provide a fascinating glimpse into the smallest marine life. If you've never watched a live barnacle filter for its food, I highly recommend it.
If kayaking or even walking are beyond your ambitions or abilities, settle down in one of the comfortable chairs on one of several decks overlooking the ocean. Oceanfront campsites have their own little lawn overlooking the bay, but sites further back are more private. Sites furthest back sit on a hill, and offer the shade of large pine trees and a view of the ocean.
Tenters will appreciate the separate tent loop across a stream from the RV portion of the campground. The large sites are heavily wooded and spaced nicely and offer ocean views.
