The profusion of signs on the way to this private Good Sam campground tell of fierce competition with the KOA campground across the street. We've got cards for both, and we came upon Rocky Top first, so it's the one we pulled into. It worked for us. The owners of this small campground try harder than at any place we've ever stayed to make guests feel welcome. They not only escort you to your site, but help you park and level your rig, even providing leveling blocks. Every new camper gets a "goody bag," with candy, crackers, a pen, keychain and other do-dads. In the evening, each canine guest receives a homemade, hand-delivered dog biscuit. Our beagle, Shiloh, was impressed.
The campground is hilly, but sites are fairly level and surrounded by mature trees. Facilities include a picnic pavillion, sauna (extra charge), laundry, and heated and air conditioned bathrooms and shower rooms made of beautiful cedar. Other amenities include propane filling, Wi-Fi, cable RV, a camp and RV store, free newspapers, and a very nice, fenced doggy playground.
Beneath their rustic exterior, the campground's guest cabins have air conditioning, heat, and whirlpool tubs. The five tent sites available are in wooded areas well away from the motorhomes.
The only negative is that some RV sites back to a well-traveled, two-lane state road, although heavy shrubbery helps block traffic sounds. In any event, the road doesn't seem to get much traffic after dark.
