This 98-site campground has four loops and can accomodate any sized RV. It has some (but not many) sites with electric hookups, and a handful with water and sewer hookups. The latter are mostly reserved for campground hosts.
Campsites in this park were delightfully private, with a lot of space and dense underbrush between most sites.
The campground stretches around (but offers no direct views of) Lake Powhatan, a manmade pond that, on the spring day when we stayed here, was popular with swimmers, fishermen, and a large flock of Canada Geese. The fishermen looked happy. As for the swimmers, the pond was cold and muddy and the geese looked (and sounded) less-than-happy that their home had been invaded by people.
This campground is only a mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and directly adjacent to the North Carolina Arboretum, a wonderful showcase of local plants.
The only downside: On the day we visited in late April, 2007, public bathrooms in the campground were dirty. It looked as if it had been several days, maybe more, since anyone had bothered to clean them. On the plus side, we had cellphone service, wireless Internet access through our cell carrier, and we could even pick up a local TV channel to catch the news.
