Delaware National Water Gap Recreation Area is a treasure of waterfalls, a major river, smaller streams and wooded hiking trails within easy traveling distance of major east coast cities, including New York. The privately operated (but government owned) Dingman's Ferry Campground is located in this 70,000-acre park.
The prime attraction here is the 40-mile section of the middle Delaware River that carves its way over the Pocono Mountains. Some of the campsites are riverfront, others are wooded or in a meadow. Tent and group sites are available. Reservations are accepted and probably advised in the summer.
The 133-site campground is open from April through October. Canoeing is a popular activity, and the campground offers a private a livery service with a variety of scheduled trips.
RVs are allowed here, but there are no electric hookups and use of gas generators is prohibited at all times. But not to worry, if you can't use your electric coffee maker, the camp store sells coffee as well as other supplies.
Drinking water, showers, flush toilets, and an RV dump station are other amenities. Pets on leash are permitted.
